Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight Behind 3-0 Sweep at Assumption

The Panthers accumulated an impressive .463 hitting percentage in tonight's 3-0 sweep at Assumption.

Worcester, MA – The Adelphi University women's volleyball team continued its recent streak with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-14) victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption earlier this evening. The win marks five straight wins for the Panthers (5-9/3-0 NE-10).

Sophomore Mandy Stanislovaitis led the attack with 12 kills on a .550 hitting percentage while also adding five digs and two blocks. Senior Kaitlyn DeStefano added a .417 hitting percentage with eight kills and seven total blocks. The Brown and Gold notched an impressive .463 hitting percentage throughout the match. Additionally, Sierra Crook and Ajsha Mekulovic combined for nine service aces.

For the Greyhounds (3-7/1-2 NE-10) Ann Donahue and Stephanie Hawley led the group with four kills each. Courtney Bagwell added two aces while Maria Chrisom made seven digs.

Two kills from DeStefano and one from Stanislovaitis highlighted the final three points of set one for the Panthers on the way to a 25-15 win. The duo each controlled five kills in the game while freshman Megan Manierski dished out 11 assists.

The second set went Adelphi's way early as the team jumped out to a 13-2 advantage with six straight points as Mekulovic notched two aces. She then capped off the set with another ace for the 25-10 game win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

A .680 hitting percentage behind 17 kills on 25 attempts with no errors was the key to victory in the third game for the Brown and Gold. The Greyhounds scored three straight points when the Panthers were on game-point at 24-11. Senior Haley Blunt put the finishing touches on the evening with a kill from Manierski, who finished with 34 assists on the night.

"I am proud of the girls for coming off a long bus trip this afternoon and ready to play tonight," said Head Coach Danielle MacKnight. "The group served well tonight and as always, we are looking to continue this momentum into our next match on the road this Friday at Pace."

As noted by coach MacKnight, the Panthers play the second of three straight on the road at Pace this Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm from Pleasantville, NY.
