Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. – After celebrating seniors
Katie Andrews and
Courtney Sullivan, the Adelphi University softball team went out and claimed two games from The College of Saint Rose to sweep the three-game series with victories of 4-3 and 5-2.
The Panthers move to 25-16 on the season with a 14-8 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference while Saint Rose concludes its 2014 campaign at 11-23 and 7-15.

Victoria Wink put forth a 4-for-5 day from the plate with four RBI that included a homerun and a double. Sophomore infielder
Jordan Catalano and freshman outfielder
Niki Barbato each added two hits and a like number of RBIs. Andrews and freshman
Lindsay Mapes each picked up a win with Andrews gaining the second game save from the circle. The duo combined for 10 strikeouts on the afternoon.
Wink kicked off the scoring for the Brown and Gold in the opener with an RBI single in the third. She later gave her team a 2-0 advantage with a solo homerun to left center in the sixth inning. The sixth inning also featured a RBI double from Catalano and an RBI single by freshman infielder
Christina Palmenteri, giving Adelphi a 4-0 lead heading into the seventh.
The Golden Knights looked to play the role of spoilers with three runs, all coming with two outs, in the final frame. Sophomore infielder Danielle Brusca started the rally with a RBI double. Freshman infielder Carly Wood later drove in two runs on a single before Andrews produced a final strikeout for the victory.
In the night cap, Catalano picked up another RBI double in the second to produce a 1-0 advantage. Saint Rose quickly responded in the third as senior infielder Olivia Reeves drove in classmate outfielder Amber Loussedes with a matching double.
However, the third inning was also one of runs for the Panthers as four touched home in the bottom half. Wink continued her stellar day with a two RBI double followed by a two run scoring single from Barbato. The Golden Knights cut into the lead with one in the fourth before the Mapes and Andrews combination closed out the game.
Prior to the start of today's doubleheader, Andrews and Sullivan were recognized as seniors playing in their final games. Loussedes, Reeves, and senior Val Nelson from the Golden Knights were also acknowledged.
An action packed weekend continues tomorrow for the Panthers as they host non-conference opponent Queens for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm from Ficke Field.
