Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Saint Leo, FL - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Saint Leo, Florida on Wednesday, March 12 to line-up against Saint Leo University. The Panthers led, 3-2 in game one, but a Saint Leo, three-run home run handed Adelphi a 5-3 defeat. Game two also went in favor of the hosts, as the Lions turned Adelphi away, 10-2. With the losses, Adelphi falls to 2-6 overall, while Saint Leo improves to 17-11.

Game One
Adelphi got off to a hot start, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Danielle Cutuli started the rally, working a one out walk and was pushed to second on a Victoria Wink single to left. Andrews followed that at bat up with a drive to center that carried over the head of the outfielder and hit the wall, allowing her to land on second and Cutuli to cross home plate. Niki Barbato smacked a hard hit ball to second, and was thrown out at first, but Wink scampered home to put the Panthers ahead, 2-0 after just three outs.

The Lions got one of Adelphi's two runs back in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a solo shot over the wall in left field. They followed that up in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to dead center, that scored a base runner from third, knotting the action at two through three innings of play.

The Brown and Gold took back the lead on a one out single from Courtney Sullivan in the top of the fourth, that brought home Barbato, who led off the inning with a walk, 3-2. The hosts responded in resounding fashion in the bottom of the fifth, banging a Lindsey Mapes pitch over the wall in dead center, with two runners on, turning a 3-2 deficit, into a 5-3 Lion lead, which would be the final score after two scoreless inning from the Panthers.

Mapes was credited with the loss, throwing five innings, giving up nine hits, five runs and striking out one. Andrews tossed one inning of relief, giving up one hit, no runs and striking out one. Offensively, the Brown and Gold were led by Sullivan, who went 2-3 with one RBI, while Wink and Andrews were 1-3 with an RBI for Andrews and a run scored for Wink.

Game Two
The host Lions pounced on the Panthers early in game two, scoring eight runs in the first inning off of starting pitcher, Andrews. Using three singles, a double and a triple to account for the runs and Adelphi's, 8-0 early game hole.

The Brown and Gold got one run back in the top of the fourth. Wink worked a walk to lead the inning off and then advanced to second on passed ball and took third as well, thanks to some aggressive base running. Barato struck out swinging, with one out, but a dropped ball by the catcher and a throwing error, allowed Barbato to reach first and Wink to trot home, making the score 8-1.

The Panthers got another run back in the top of the fifth. Danielle Cutuli hit a two out ball to left side of the infield and forced the Lion shortstop to go deep into the hole. Cutuli beat out the throw and her hit allowed Sullivan, who reached earlier in the inning on an error, to cross home plate, making it an 8-2 ball game.

The host Lions struck back in the bottom of the fifth, turning two singles into a one out run, pushing their advantage back to seven runs, 9-2. One out later Saint Leo ended the contest with a drive through the right half of the infield, past a diving Melaney Reichelt, which allowed the winning run to slip home, 10-2.

Andrews was credited with the loss, throwing one inning, giving up nine hits and eight runs, while striking out one. Mapes came on in relief, throwing 3.2 innings striking out one, and giving up two runs on five hits.

The Panthers managed three hits and two RBI in the loss, with Cutuli, Andrews and Sullivan combining for the hits and Cutuli and Barbato chipping in the RBI.
