Old Westbury, NY - The Adelphi University volleyball did not have to travel far to pick its up seventh straight win tonight as the squad swept crosstown, non-conference rival NYIT 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17) earlier this evening. It also marked the third straight sweep for the Panthers (7-9).
Seniors
Haley Blunt and
Kaitlyn DeStefano combined for 21 kills as the Brown and Gold racked up a .302 hitting percentage as a group with DeStefano posting a .450 percentage.
Alayna Jackson paced the offense with 30 assists while adding nine digs.
Sierra Crook posted 17 digs from her libero position.
Emily Mankowski led the Bears (8-10) with eight kills. Allison Fowler and Taylor Pulley eached dished out 10 assists.
Blunt and DeStefano kicked off the first set with four kills each to help Adelphi to a 25-15 win while Jackson contribued eight assists. DeStefano also added three total blocks, a solo and two assisted, to help the Brown and Gold close out the set on a 15-6 run.
After falling behind 6-2 in the second game, Adelphi rallied to even the set at 10 points aside before both squads traded points. The Panthers took control of the game at 16-15 on the way to a 25-18 victory as DeStefano swung for five kills.
Adelphi progressively built a lead in the third set on the way to the match sweep behind a 25-17 game victory as
Shelby Stoner totaled eight kills with a .778 hitting percentage and Crook posted seven digs.
"Really proud of the girls and the way they put a full match together against a touch NYIT," said Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight. "We need to keep up this consistency and intensity in every practice and match as each is very important."
The Panthers return home and back into Northeast-10 Conference play with a Saturday match against American International starting at 1:00 pm.
