Winning Ways Continue For Volleyball In 3-0 Win Versus American International

The Panthers won their eighth straight match today, including the fourth consecutive sweep.

Garden City, NY – For the fourth straight match the Adelphi University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 win after today's Northeast-10 Conference victory against American International. It was also the eighth straight decision for the Panthers (8-9/5-0 NE-10).

Seniors Haley Blunt and Kaitlyn DeStefano along with sophomore Mandy Stanislovaitis each accumulated nine kills each. Stanislovaitis led the trio with a .467 hitting percentage while DeStefano and Blunt swung for percentages of .444 and .400 respectively. Adelphi racked up six service aces along with seven blocks in the effort.

Shirley Bazua led the Yellow Jackets (5-15/1-5 NE-10) with seven kills while Phoebe Lettington added nine digs and six kills.

Leading 17-14 in the late stages of the first set, Adelphi strung together seven straight points with Stanislovaitis on the majority of the serves while DeStefano notched three kills in that span. After a Yellow Jacket point, DeStefano closed out the game 25-15 with another kill.

Blunt and Stanislovaitis each put down three kills in game two with Alayna Jackson passing out nine assists and Sierra Crook picking up five digs. As a team, the Brown and Gold put forth a .391 hitting percentage on the way to the 25-12 set victory and move up 2-0 in the match.

Megan Manierski took over setting duties in game three, passing out nine assists with Blunt leading the group behind four kills and six other attacking for at least one kill. Defensively, the Panthers blocked four shots with DeStefano posting one solo and assisting on two.

"Today was an all-around great team effort," said Head Coach Danielle MacKnight. "We did a good job of setting up the block and playing defense behind it, which we need to continue moving forward."

Adelphi is back on the road this Tuesday before playing two straight home matches next weekend. The Panthers travel to Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, CT for a 7:00 pm match Tuesday evening.
