Flushing, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped at the hands of the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology on Thursday afternoon in a match played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.
The Panthers (10-2) lost just their second match of the season, and both losses have come to non-conference opponents. The Bears (7-0) opened play with two wins in doubles to take command in the match, and didn't look back from there. NYIT's Alexandra Borgenhoff opened singles play for the Bears with a 6-2, 6-0 win over
Joanna Haich at No. 4 singles to give her team a 3-0 lead in the match.
Melanie Benyadi clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over
Rebecca Fakas at fifth singles, while simultaneously handing Fakas the first singles loss of her collegiate career.
Stefani Lineva scored the lone point for the Panthers by defeating Sara Burinato 6-2, 6-4 at first singles.
No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles were not played due to shortened rosters for both teams.
