New Haven, CT - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to New Haven, Connecticut on Tuesday, October 14 with the goal of evening their overall record with a victory against the host Owls of Southern Connecticut State University. The Panthers picked up a, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19) victory against the Owls, behind a 10 kill and nine dig performance from
Mandy Stanislovaitis.
With the win the Brown and Gold rise to 9-9 overall and are undefeated in Northeast-10 play at 6-0, while Southern Connecticut State slips to 5-13 and 2-5 in the conference.
Along with Stanislovaitis,
Haley Blunt and
Kaitlyn DeStefano paced the offense with seven and six kills, while three players,
Ajsha Mekulovic, Blunt and
Megan Manierski, added five digs. Manierski also ran the Panther offense, racking up 18 set assists in the win.
The Panthers cruised to a set one victory behind 11 kills and a 0.296 hitting percentage, getting three kills each from Blunt and
Shelby Stoner, 25-12. The offense got even better for the Brown and Gold in game two, with Adelphi posting 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .316. Stanislovaitis and Blunt set the tone in game two with a combined nine kills, while Manierski recorded 11 set assists in the 25-18 triumph. The third game was more of the same, with the Panthers putting the contest away, behind 12 kills in a 25-19 win.
"We have worked really hard as a team the past few weeks and it feels good to get back to .500," stated head coach
Danielle MacKnight. "But, we have a lot of season left and we need to continue to work hard and stay focused on our goals."
Adelphi will return to Garden City on Friday, October 17 when they welcome Saint Anselm College to the Center for Recreation and Sports for a 7:00 pm contest.
