Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team is preparing to travel to Manchester, New Hampshire on Saturday, January 11 with their national ranking (13th) and their 12-1 record in tow. The Panthers are slated to clash with Northeast-10 opponent Saint Anselm at 1:30 pm.
The Brown and Gold are off to the programs best start since going 21-0 to open the 2001-02. That year Adelphi posted a record of 28-3 overall and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16. With 12 victories already this season the Panthers are just three shy of last winter's total of 15.
Adelphi is a game up on New Haven in the division standings and Saturday's opponent, Saint Anselm is currently sitting in fifth in the Northeast Division at 4-5, with an overall record of 8-6. A year ago the Panthers played host to Saint Anselm, picking up a 14 point win, 68-54 on February 2.
The Brown and Gold are into the second half of their schedule, and have moved up to the No. 13 spot in the latest USA Today Sports Division II Coaches' Poll, released on Tuesday, January 7. After joining the poll on December 10 at 8-0 overall, the Panthers are now 12-1 overall and 6-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Brown and Gold also appear in the statistical National Rankings, currently leading the country in field-goal percentage (50.1 percent). They are also second in scoring margin (27.1 points) and fifth in scoring offense (87.0 ppg). The squad was one of just eight teams remaining in Division II with a perfect record, prior to Wednesday's loss to Stonehill, 104-92.
