Softball Snaps Skid, Takes One of Two From St. Rose

The Panthers dropped game one, 2-0, but rebounded to pick up an 8-1 win in game two.

Caird had four hits on the day.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Albany, N.Y. - Adelphi traveled to The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, April 27 to start a three-game Northeast-10 Southwest Divisional series with the Golden Knights and split a doubleheader. Adelphi dropped a 2-0 decision in the opener, but followed that up with a 8-1 victory at Cathy Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
 
The Golden Knights now sit at 10-29-1 overall after the split and 6-14 in the Southwest Division, while Adelphi is currently 36-16 on the season and 16-4 in division. Senior outfielder Emily Dorko went 5-for-8 on the day to pace the Panthers, while senior outfielder Amy Caird notched four hits and two RBI. Senior pitcher Laurin Watts completed her 18th victory of the campaign by striking out eight in the nightcap. 
 
Game One
A pitcher's duel for the first four and half innings between Nicole Wickham and senior pitcher Devon Kelly before the Golden Knights benefitted from a fielding error, scoring two with two outs in the fifth inning. Despite Adelphi's best efforts, the Panthers next six batters were set down, handing the Brown and Gold a 2-0 loss.

Kelly went six innings for Adelphi, striking out four and walking none, while giving up six hits. Dorko and Caird led the offense as both players went 2-3.
 
Game Two
The Panther's offense quickly responded to open the nightcap with seven runs in the second and third innings. Senior catcher Elizabeth Lindner highlighted the rally with a two-run triple in the third inning.
 
Saint Rose managed their only run of the game in the fifth inning on an rbi single, but the Panthers pushed an insurance run across in the seventh and held the Golden Knights scoreless despite having the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame.

Watts picked up her 18th win of the season, throwing seven innings, striking out eight and giving up just six hits. Offensively, Dorko was 3-5 with a run and an rbi, while Kayla Rieger, Victoria Wink and Caird were 2-4.
 
The two teams conclude the regular season tomorrow with a single game at Haker Field. First pitch is set for 12:30 pm.
