Game One
Pitchers
Devon Kelly and Kelsey Cockrill mowed thru the first five innings of the game, giving up a combined three hits. However, the Owls finally broke through in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs. SCSU put runners on first and third with one out when a single down the left field line brought around the first run. The second run was driven home on a fielder's choice to the shortstop, putting Adelphi in a 2-0 hole.
In the bottom of the inning the Brown and Gold would half the margin with a
Victoria Wink singled up the middle, scoring
Kayla Rieger, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning, 2-1. That was as close as Adelphi would get stranding one running in the bottom of the sixth and a second runner in the bottom of the seventh.
Kelly was saddled with the loss, despite throwing seven strong innings, striking out one, walking two and giving up just four hits. Wink,
Emily Dorko and
Katie Andrews collected Adelphi's three hits in the game.
Game Two
The Panther bats were the story of game two, as Adelphi picked up a 9-0 win in five innings. Adelphi got on the board early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Dorko and
Heather Salerno led off the game with singles and both were drove in by Wink, who smacked a double down the left field line, 2-0. A batter later Wink crossed home plate on a
Jaclyn Binstock ground out to second, 3-0.
The Brown and Gold tacked onto the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third on an Andrews double to right center that scored Wink and a
Jeanine Leo single to left that brought Andrews in, 5-0. The Panthers then put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs. A Wink single to left field brought around the first run, scoring
Amy Caird and putting herself, and Dorko on the base paths for Andrews, who hit a three run shot over the wall in left field.
Andrews home run gave Adelphi a 9-0 lead, which was plenty of run support for
Laurin Watts, who threw a five inning one hit shut out, striking out seven to pick up her 12th win of the season. Andrews was 2-3 with two runs scored and four rbi, while Wink was 2-3 with three runs scored and three rbi.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, April 4 when they play host to non-conference opponent Bloomfield College at 3:00 pm on Janet L. Ficke Field.
