New Haven, CT - The Adelphi University swim team continued competition at the Northeast-10 Championships on Friday, February 1 in New Haven, Connecticut on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University. On the second day of action
Jalen Jennings captured the programs first NE-10 diving title and the Panthers set three school records in the pool.
The men are currently sitting in sixth place overall with a total of 230 points, while the women are seventh with 191 points.
Jennings highlighted the action on the second day of the NE-10 Championship meet when he turned the tables on Josh Byrne of LeMoyne, who was tops in the prelims by 13 points, to win the programs first conference title on the one meter board. Jennings score of 462.50 was yet another NCAA automatic qualifying mark and out distanced Byrne by less then two points for victory.
In the pool the men were led by
Michael Mayer, who continued his strong swimming with a third place finish in the 400 yard individual medley. Mayer's clocking of 4:09.56 broke his own existing school record and was just three seconds off of an NCAA B cut.
Chad Ankers had two strong swims of his own, placing fourth in the 100 yard butterfly (52.88) and eighth in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.64). His 100 yard butterfly time missed the NCAA B cut mark by just over two seconds.
Mayer, Ankers and Jennings teamed up with
Zachary Mazur to finish sixth in the 200 yard medley with a clocking of 1:42.04 and the trio of Mayer, Ankers and Mazur were joined by
Kevin Rohle in the 800 yard freestyle relay, touching the wall at 7:34.27, good enough for fifth in the field.
