Women's Hoops Trump Holy Family Tigers in 92-72 Victory

The Panthers have now jumped out to a perfect 10-0 overall record for the 2013-2014 season.

The Panthers will not return to action until Thursday, January 2 as they travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to play Pace University.
Box Score

Philadelphia, PA - The Adelphi University women's basketball team scored 54 points in the first half against non-conference opponent Holy Family University to go on to defeat the Tigers 92-72. With the win, the Panthers improve to a stellar 10-0 overall, as the Tigers drop to 3-5 on the season.

Junior Kelly Mannix completed the game with a team-high 26 points, coming one point shy of her career best of 27. Four other Panthers found themselves in double digits as Sade Jackson contributed 16 points, Calli Balfour had 15, Jessica Kitrys registered 14 and Jenna Halaby contributed 12 of her own. Jackson flirted with her first triple double, just missing the mark with 12 assists and eight rebounds.

The Brown and Gold jumped out to a quick start as the Tigers' only lead came in the first minute on a layup by Erin Fenningham, making the score 2-0. Halaby and Jackson would make back-to-back three pointers to jump ahead 6-2. That trend would continue as Adelphi went 9-16 from downtown in the first half alone.

Going into the locker room, Mannix would lead all players with 15 points in her 16 minutes on the court. Jackson accounted for 10 assists as Adelphi led the Tigers 54-40 at halftime.

The second half featured much of the same kind of play as the Panthers answered every Holy Family basket with one of their own. A quick jumper by Jackson with 12:39 remaining increased the margin to 17 and the Panthers were not slowing down.

With 1:41 remaining, the Tigers would come within 17 of the Panthers at 71-88, but a free throw and layup by Kitrys and another free throw by Halaby would seal the deal, giving Adelphi its tenth straight win.
