New York City, N.Y. -  On Sunday, September 29, members of the bowling team lent their time to participate in the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk, in which they followed the last path Stephen Siller, FDNY, took when tragedy struck on September 11, 2001. Juniors Erica Schneider and Holly Zink (pictured below) attended the event as members of the "Remembering Those Who Have Fallen" team, which raised $335 dollars. 

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk begins at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel and travels all the way to Ground Zero- the same path Siller took, with 60 pounds of equipment strapped to his back as he tried to meet up with his company after the first plane struck the Twin Towers. The mission for the foundation that was created in his name s to follow Stephen's footsteps through support of children who have lost a parent, firefighteres, and military who have been seriously injured and sacrifice their quality of life in the line of duty. 

The 5K took place this year in 10 locations along the east coast , ranging from Mobile, Alabama to New York City. The event serves to remember and honor the first responders and military heroes who make extraordinary sacrifices in their line of duty.

"Supporting this type of event meant alot to Erica and I," stated Zink. "The funds raised go to supporting the medical and personal needs of our military who responded at the time of the attack on Septemeber 11th, so every little bit counts." 

This year the goal for the Tunnel to Towers 5K was $1.5 million dollars. At the conclusion of the New York City event, the foundation had reached and exceeded that amount with a grand total of $1.7 milion.
