Alaska, AK -
The Adelphi University volleyball team closed out play at the SpringHill Suites Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, September 8 in the consolation game against Dixie State at the Wells Fargo Center on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before eventually falling, 3-2. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-5 overall on the season.

Emily Dorko and Kaitlyn DeStefano paced the Panther offense with 14 kills each, while Samantha Rico reached double figures with 11. Alayna Jackson had a game and career-high 46 assists in her first start as a Panther, while Bianca Hernandez tallied a game-high 21 digs and Jackson chipped in 13 and Alexandra Kahen had 11.

The Panthers jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first game on a Rico kill, but Dixie State came back to tie the contest at 19. However, Adelphi used a 6-2 spurt, including two more Rico kills, to end game one on top, 25-21. The second game was all Brown and Gold, as the Panthers stormed out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back, securing the 2-0 lead and 25-12 game two victory with a Hernandez service ace.

Things got tough for the Panthers in the third game, which was tight throughout. A Red Storm kill gave Dixie State a 22-20 lead, but Adelphi scored four of the next six points, including two straight from Dorko, to knot the score at 24 and force extra points. The Panthers would take a one point lead, 25-24 on the next play, but three straight Dixie State kills would keep the Red Storm alive, 2-1.

Adelphi fell behind early in game four, 4-1 and had to battle back, tying the game at nine on a Rico kill. The game would remain tied at 14, but Dixie State would close out the fourth frame with a 11-4 run that secured a 25-18 victory for the Red Storm. The fifth game saw Adelphi sprint out to a lead of 4-0, and then after a Dixie State comeback the Panthers seemed to take control on a Red Storm miscue that gave Adelphi a 13-8 lead. Unfortunately, Adelphi could not close the deal, failing to score anymore points, while Dixie State reeled off seven straight for the win and the match, 15-13.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 14 when they travel to Brookville, New York for a contest with in region rival Caldwell College at noon.
