Piscataway, NJ – In the late evening, the men's soccer team took on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University at Yurcak Field. After falling behind early 2-0, the Panthers clawed their way back into the game to score three consecutive goals, but allowed Rutgers to set the score even at three at the end of regulation. After two overtimes, either team was able to come away with the win, resulting in a tie. With the draw, Adelphi moves to 2-4-1 while the Scarlet Knights sit at 4-3-1.

Rutgers wasted no time getting up on the board as Kene Eze needed only the first 25 seconds to capitalize on a one-on-one opportunity and put the ball past the debuting freshman keeper, Ahmad Salamah, and put his team up 1-0.

Less than 27 minutes later, Eze scored his second goal of the game on an assist from teammate Juan Pablo Correa, putting the Panthers deeper into a hole.

However, head coach Carlo Acquista and his men did not get discouraged and fought hard to get back into it. Domenico Parrelli gave his team the boost they needed on offense after the Scarlet Knight defense failed to clear the ball. Parrelli gained possession and fired a shot that beat keeper Kevin McMullen to cut the lead in half just seconds before the first 45 minutes came to a close.

After an injury sustained by Salamah just 31 minutes into the game, reliable keeper, Kyle Blackmer entered the game to defend the Panther net.

The Panthers carried the intensity over to the second half and it paid off in the form of two goals within the opening eight minutes, putting them ahead for the first time in the game. Junior Brandon Stoneham notched the second goal for his team when he rifled a shot from 25 yards out, erasing the one goal deficit. Adrian Sundquist, on an Omar Edwards pass from the left side, found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, and Adelphi's third of the game, giving them a 3-2 lead with just under 39 minutes remaining in the game.

At the 65:42 mark, Eze earned a rare hat trick as he managed to find the back of the net for the third time this game and beat Blackmer to get the equalizer.

With time nearing the 90 minute mark, the Scarlet Knights offense pressured the Panthers, rattling off five shots in the final 11 minutes. Fortunately, Adelphi's defense, along with Blackmer, held strong and the game headed into overtime.

The game saw two eventual overtimes and was very one statistically one sided with the Scarlet Knights getting five shots and seven corner opportunities compared to just one shot and no corners for Adelphi. At the conclusion of 110 minutes of play, the game would end with the score deadlocked at three a piece.

Blackmer made four saves while his counterpart, McCullen made two.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, October 1 when they travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Huskies of Houston Baptist University in their first Atlantic Soccer Conference game of the season. The contest is slated for a 7pm start.
