Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. –
The Adelphi University field hockey team took on the Saints of Limestone College in a non-conference contest earlier this afternoon on Motamed Field. The Panthers could not climb out of a first half deficit and let up another goal in the second, falling to Limestone, 2-0. With the loss, the Panthers move to 4-6, 1-1 NE-10 while the Saints move to 5-1.

Adelphi had a mid-first half opportunity to gain the early lead when senior Julianne Gerbino gained possession of the ball a few yards out from the goal on the right side, but sailed a shot just wide left of the net.

At 26:30, the Saint's Abby Rummel fired a shot from five yards out and beat junior keeper Kristine Puzio to notch the first goal of the game, setting the Panthers back, 1-0 as they headed into the half. Becky Sampson was credited with the assist.

Jeanette Heimerle had an opportunity to level the score in the 46th minute when she made her way deep into Saint territory and took a shot but sent it just wide of the net. Limestone struck again in the 52nd minute when Skylar Marcoux set up teammate Sara Parker who connected on the one-timer to put Adelphi in a two goal deficit.

Rachel Goromonzi had a late opportunity in the final minutes of the game on a breakaway, but Puzio made a terrific save to stop the bleeding. However, it was not enough as the Saints would go on to hold the lead, serving the Panthesr their sixth loss of the season.

Puzio made two saves in her first start of the season. The Panthers outshot the Saints 12-4 and had an 8-5 penalty corner advantage.

Up next, the Panthers will host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce in their third NE-10 Conference contest of the season, tomorrow, September 27. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
