The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Old Westbury, New York on Thursday, September 15 to take on former East Coast Conference rival NYIT. The Panthers used 13 kills from
Chelsea Overholt and 20 digs from
Bianca Hernandez to top the Bears in straight sets, 25-19, 30-28 and 25-22. With the win Adelphi evens their record at 3-3, while NYIT falls to 1-3 overall.
Overholt led the offense with 13 kills, while
Samantha Rico added eight and
Patawe Simms chipped in six.
Katie Bryson had 30 assists and Hernandez led all players with 20 digs.
The Panthers took game one, 25-19 as both teams had nine kills, but Adelphi had one less error and took advantage of three straight kills to turn a 20-16 lead into a 22-16 edge. The second game was a very back and forth affair, that saw the Brown and Gold hold a 18-14 lead in kills, ending with three consecutive Panther kills, as Simms, Rico and Kaitlyn Destefano turned a 28 all tie into a 30-28 Adelphi victory. The third and final set also went to the Panthers, 25-22 as a 23-18 lead turned into a win thanks to NYIT miscues.
Adelphi will return to action on Saturday, September 17 when they play host to both Northeast-10 opponent Assumption and local rival Dominican in Garden City, New York.
