Oakdale, N.Y. -
The top seeded Panthers dropped a 10-5 decision to C.W. Post, forcing a decisive championship game. In the title game Adelphi topped the third seeded Pioneers 7-6 to capture the ECC crown and improve to 33-15.
Game One
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead after one inning, thanks to singles from Rob DeGennaro and Bobby Calca. Adelphi remained in front by two runs through four innings, when C.W. Post produced three runs in the top of the fifth to move ahead 3-2.
The Pioneers extended their lead to 9-2 after putting three runs on the board in both the seventh and eighth inning. Trailing 10-2 in the bottom of the ninth Adelphi rallied with two outs. Mike Colonna started the rally with a single to left and was driven home by Rob Paccione. A DeGennaro double brought two more Panthers across the plate, but Mike Testani ended the threat by grounding to short.
Game Two
The Pioneers took the early lead in game two, scoring a run in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch to claim a 1-0 lead. The Panthers answered with five runs in the third courtesy of a two-run home run from Colonna and a two-run double from Ryan Boelsen, to take a 5-1 lead.
Adelphi added runs in the fourth and fifth on a sacrifice fly from Testani and a single from Ralph Tropiano, giving the Panthers a 7-1 cushion. The score remained 7-1 through the seventh, when the Pioneers started to rally. C.W. Post knocked in three runs in the eighth on a home run from Glasso and tacked on two more in the bottom of the ninth on a Joe Mare home run.
However, Chris Weidlein came in and shut down the Pioneers in the ninth, inducing a pop-up and ending the game.
