Women's Soccer Falls in Close Bout With Division I Vermont

Burlington, Vt. – Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team continued its road trip, traveling up to Division I Vermont for some midweek action.

Series History:

  • This was the first-ever matchup between Adelphi (3-1-1, 0-0-0 NE10) and Vermont.

Highlights:

How It Happened:

  • Adelphi started off strong against its Division I counterpart, earning the first two set pieces of the day and recording the first shot.
  • After the first 10 minutes of a back-and-forth affair, the Catamounts found their footing offensively and started to make some runs into Adelphi's end.
  • Vermont scored the first goal of the game in the 18th minute after Madeline Gardner muscled her way past the Panther defense and beat Catalanotti with a low shot.
  • With the Catamounts continuing to press forward, Adelphi held its own and kept the deficit at one heading into the half.
  • Goodrich had the first scoring chance of the second half, but missed wide right. Adelphi tried to break through offensively, but Vermont's backline was too strong, consistently stopping the Brown and Gold in its attacking midfield.
  • Vermont extended the lead in the 66th minute on a goal from Eleni Stowell.
  • Adelphi had chances with set pieces in the final 20 minutes, but the Panthers could not muster a shot on goal.
  • Goodrich had an excellent chance in the final seconds to end the drought, but her shot clanked off the crossbar and Vermont went on to win 2-0.

Up Next:

  • The Adelphi women's soccer team will have the weekend off and be back on the field Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when it travels up to St. Thomas Aquinas.
