Adelphi University Athletics

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team battled No. 4 East Stroudsburg University for all 60 minutes on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 2-1 at Motamed Field.

The Panthers struck first behind Lana Mignon De Wet's fourth goal of the season. The two sides remained even until East Stroudsburg broke the tie late in the third quarter.

Series History:

• Adelphi falls to 0-10 all-time against East Stroudsburg.
• Saturday marked the fourth meeting between the two programs at Motamed Field.
• The Panthers' last matchup against the Warriors (9/14/25) ended in a 10-2 loss in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
• This is the second time this season that the Warriors were held to just two goals.

• De Wet scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and has now found the back of the cage in three consecutive games.
• Jena Geels picked up her first assist of the season on De Wet's opening goal.

How It Happened:

• The Panthers generated the first strong offensive opportunity of the afternoon when Izzy Leclair put a shot on goal less than three minutes into the contest.
• Adelphi broke through with 3:28 remaining in the opening quarter. Geels found De Wet, who beat the East Stroudsburg goalkeeper to give the Brown and Gold a 1-0 advantage.
• The Warriors responded just over a minute later, finding the back of the cage to even the contest at 1-1.
• East Stroudsburg saw four penalty corners in the second quarter, but the Adelphi defense held strong behind Szmak to keep their opponent off the board. 
• The Panthers came out aggressive offensively in the third quarter, producing six shots and were awarded three penalty corners.
• East Stroudsburg broke the stalemate with 1:08 remaining in the third quarter. Following a penalty corner and an initial save from Szmak, the Warriors got past the Panther netminder, taking a 2-1 advantage.
• Adelphi immediately looked for an answer. Jody van Aardt managed a shot before Geels put an attempt on goal in the closing seconds of the third quarter, but the Panthers were unable to find the equalizer.
• The Warriors applied pressure early in the fourth, but Geels recorded a defensive save to keep Adelphi within one.
• The Brown and Gold continued to search for the tying goal, generating three shots and two penalty corners in the final quarter, but East Stroudsburg held on for the 2-1 victory.
