Wilmington, Del. - On day two of the Wildcat Regional Invitational, the Adelphi University volleyball team took a pair of matches, defeating Queens College and hosts Wilmington University to move to 5-6 overall this sesaon.Ā
Game 1: Adelphi 3, Queens 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23)
- The Panthers controlled the opening set, hitting .182 as a team and closing out Queens, 25-20, to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Adelphi continued to battle in the second set, holding off a late Knights push to secure a 25-23 victory and move within one set of the sweep.
- Madeleine Chaapel led the Panthers with 11 kills, while Abby Franco added six kills and Melana Bigelow and Gretchen Brady each contributed five.
- Ana Carolina Westerich recorded 15 assists, while Isabella Assaley added nine assists. Ada Isik anchored the defense with a match-high 17 digs.
- Adelphi hit .225 as a team with 38 kills, while its eight total blocksāincluding four from Bradyāhelped limit Queens to a .071 hitting percentage.
Game 2: Adelphi 3, Wilmington 1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-14, 25-13)
- The visitors opened the first set with minimal hitting errors and used a team hitting percentage of .269 to command a 25-13 victory. Additionally, the defense put together three blocks as the Wildcats were held to just four kills in the opening set.
- Tables quickly turned in the second frame as the Panthers committed nine attack errors to the hosts' one, dropping the set, 20-25. The home team boasted a match-best .429 hitting percentage in the second, due largely to consistent offense.Ā
- After Wilmington evened the match with a second-set victory, Adelphi responded emphatically, winning the third set, 25-14, and fourth set, 25-13, to secure the four-set triumph.
- Chaapel led the Panthers with 12 kills, while Mackenzie Casey delivered an efficient performance with 10 kills on 14 attacks, good for a .643 hitting percentage.
- Westerich orchestrated the Adelphi offense with 42 assists, while Isik saw another double-digit dig stat line with 25 digs.
- Adelphi finished with 54 kills, 14 service aces and 52 digs, hitting .207 as a team. Katie Brokes and Reese Brunken each recorded five aces, while Gretchen Brady and Elena Covic contributed three blocks apiece.
