Chaapel Shines in Volleyball Defeat of Daemen, 3-1

Wilmington, Del. - Behind a career-best 25 kills from Madeleine Chaapel, the Adelphi University volleyball team capped its weekend with a four-set win over Daemen University on Saturday afternoon.

The victory extends the Panthers' win streak to five and puts them at 6-6 overall in 2026.

Series History:
  • Adelphi has now won it's last two meetings with the Wildcats and holds a 4-3 edge in the all-time series.
  • The Panthers have only ever swept Daemen on one occasion, when they met for the first of two times during the 2023 season.
Highlights:
  • Chaapel led the Panthers offensively with a match-high 25 kills while hitting an impressive .447 on 47 attacks.
  • Ana Carolina Westerich directed the offense with 41 assists, while Ada Isik anchored the defense with a team-high 25 digs.
  • The Panthers controlled the defensive battle, finishing with 85 digs compared to Daemen's 61, while also holding a 7-5 advantage in service aces.
  • Abby Franco added 11 kills, while Melana Bigelow contributed nine kills, 13 digs and two aces in the victory.
How It Happened:
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set and continued to roll as the Adelphi offense tried to find its footing. Daemen used a 9-1 run midway through to double its opponents score. Despite a pair of kills from Chaapel and two errors from the other side, the Cats closed out the first, 25-15.
  • Using extra points in the second frame, Bigelow recorded a kill and a service ace in the final three points to even the match at one-all.
  • The Panthers found their rhythm after the first set, posting 17 kills on .429 hitting in the third set before closing out the match with 20 kills and a .333 attack percentage in the fourth.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will host the University of Bridgeport in non-conference action on Thursday, Sept. 15. As part of its promotional offerings, the department will give away Adelphi branded quarter zips to students in attendance, while supplies last.
