Softball Bounced by SNHU in Elimination Game

Rindge, N.H. – The Adelphi University softball team's conference playoff run came to an end on Friday afternoon, as it suffered a 4-2 loss to Southern New Hampshire in the Northeast 10 Championship elimination game.

Series History:

  • Adelphi held the season series lead, 4-1, entering the matchup.
  • Prior to today's game, the programs had faced off 33 times dating back to the 2010 season.
  • Adelphi (35-21, 27-9 NE10) is now 24-10 all-time against the Penmen (34-20, 22-13 NE10).

History:

How it Happened:
  • The Penmen cracked the scoreboard first in the third inning, putting up a pair of runs. After a hit and a walk, the SNHU offense came through with a two-run double.
  • The following inning, SNHU doubled its lead, taking advantage of two free passes and an Adelphi error before ripping a double down the right field line to make it 4-0.
  • Moore recorded the first hit of the game for the Cats in the fifth inning, but was stranded on base.
  • In the sixth, Adelphi loaded the bases following back-to-back hits from Parente and Priest, along with a hit-by-pitch, before grounding into an inning-ending double play.
  • In its final at-bats, Adelphi pushed across two runs. After Kaitlyn Klepper reached on an error and Moore drew a walk, Faith Wagner moved both runners into scoring position before Hershkovitz drove them home with a single into left-center field.
  • Parente followed with a single to left to keep the rally alive, but the Panthers ultimately ran out of magic.

Up Next:

  • Head coach Katie Apostolopoulos and the Panthers will now await the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for Monday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m.
