Garden City, N.Y. - After scoring twice in the opening 30 seconds, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team rolled to a 17-4 decision to capture the program's seventh Northeast 10 Conference Championship, making it three consecutive on Saturday afternoon.
Highlights:
- Braden Donnellan was named the Most Outstanding Player, after posting a team-leading six points behind a pair of helpers and four assists.
- Christian Tomei and William Greaves joined Donnellan on the All-Tournament Team.
- This marks the second time a conference championship finished with a 13-goal differential, the last taking place in 1997.
- Michael Durnin scored a team-leading five times as nine different players found the back of the cage in the win. He was also named the NE10 Elite 24 winner, which honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the finals site at each NE10 Championship.
How It Happened:
- With a pair of the fastest goals on record, Adelphi jumped out to a two-goal lead less than a minute into the contest. Pace cut the deficit a few minutes later, but the flood gates opened at the 12:05 mark. The Panthers closed out the opening frame on an eight-goal run.
- Pace got the first word in second, after five minutes went by, but Danny Fisenne, Durnin and Gavin Herzog put back a trio of goals to push the host advantage out to 11.
- With the damage done in the opening half of work, the teams went back and forth without landing a shot for over seven minutes in the third, until Durnin scored his fifth of the contest to keep the margin in double-digits.
- Outscoring the Setters 4-2 over the second two quarters, Adelphi walked away with a historic championship finish - marking the largest margin of victory since 1997.
Up Next:
- The team earns the automatic bid out of the NE10 for the North Region. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. on ncaa.com.
