Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University softball team suffered a setback against Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon, dropping a pair of hard-fought contests.
Series History:
- Prior to today's doubleheader, the programs had faced off 22 times dating back to the 2008 season.
- Adelphi (32-18, 26-8 NE10) now sits at 15-9 all-time against the Ravens (39-7, 29-5 NE10).
Game One: Franklin Pierce 5, Adelphi 3

How It Happened:
- The Panthers got on the board first in the opening inning. Following a double from Wright, Tarjan sent a ball over the left field wall to give Adelphi an early 2-0 lead.
- Franklin Pierce answered in the top of the third, tying the game. The rally was ignited by three walks and a hit-by-pitch, followed by a sacrifice fly to even the score at two.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Adelphi regained the lead. Wright notched her second hit of the game and Maddy Moore drew a walk before a defensive error set up an infield single by Faith Wagner to make it 3-2.
- In the top of the seventh, the Ravens rallied. After a single and a defensive error, Franklin Pierce delivered back-to-back doubles with two outs to take a 5-3 lead.
- In the bottom half, the Panthers put two runners on base with a walk and a Parente single, but both were stranded to end the game.
Game Two: Franklin Pierce 8, Adelphi 3
Highlights:
- Kaitlyn Klepper recorded a hit, a run and an RBI
- Wright, Tarjan and Comer each added a hit
- Lily Kenney pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs
How It Happened:
- Both teams got on the board in the first inning. Franklin Pierce used an RBI double to highlight a two-run top half.
- Adelphi responded in the bottom of the inning. Tarjan delivered a two-out single before Klepper ripped a double to right field to cut the deficit in half. Klepper later scored on an error by the Ravens' shortstop to tie the game.
- Franklin Pierce pulled away late, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. The rally was aided by two defensive miscues and a two-run triple.
- In the Panthers' final turn at-bat, Wagner drew a leadoff walk and Comer followed with an infield single, but Adelphi ran into a double play to end the game.
