Flushing, N.Y. – Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team hosted No. 2 seed Assumption in the Northeast 10 Championship final on Tuesday afternoon.
The Greyhounds won the first doubles match to gain an early edge, but a 6-4 win from Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd put the pressure on the No. 2 flight. Although they were trailing early, Assumption's Laurence Bosmans and Marie Knipsel earned a 7-5 win to give the Greyhounds the key first point.
Despite trailing early, the Panthers were not discouraged. Boyd was dominant in a 6-2, 6-4 win, and momentum flipped in Adelphi's favor.
Genesis Beltran gave Adelphi the lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match, and Liedbeck had Adelphi on the verge of a title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory as the Panthers' No. 1.
After dropping the first set, Sara Lindeman came all the way back to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 and cap off the title for the Adelphi women's tennis team.
The NCAA women's tennis selection show will be on Monday night at 8 p.m. on the front page of ncaa.com.
