Arizona Bound! Women's Tennis Advances to Final 16 of NCAA Tournament For First Time

Philadelphia — After punching their ticket to the NCAA East Regional as a No. 2 seed, head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team took on No. 3 Jefferson on Friday afternoon for a spot in Division II's final 16.

The No. 1 duo of Northeast 10 Player of the Year Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd made quick work of their opponents with a 6-1 win. Genesis Beltran and Sara Lindeman sealed the first point of the day for the Panthers after a 6-3 victory in the No. 3 flight.

Zuzanna Witkowsa was quick to put Adelphi up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Jefferson battled back, taking four of the remaining five first sets to put pressure on the Cats. With wins in the No. 1 and No. 5 flights, the Rams flipped the match on its head to tie it at 2-2.

After dropping the first set, Roisin Boyd was dominant in sets two and three, winning 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 to give the Panthers the edge once again. Beltran sealed the match for Adelphi after earning a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win.

The win sends Adelphi to the NCAA Tournament in Surprise, Arizona which will take place between May 19 and May 24. This is the first time in program history that the Adelphi women's team has advanced past the East Regional and into the national tournament.
