Flushing, N.Y. — Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team began postseason play on Monday morning when they took on No. 5-seeded Saint Anselm in the semifinals of the Northeast 10 Championship.
The Panthers got off to a fast start, sweeping doubles play for the first team point of the day and losing only two games across the three matches. Oda Solevag Halvorsen and Zuzanna Witkowska won 6-0, while the teams of Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd, as well as Genesis Beltran and Sara Lindeman, each won 6-1.
Momentum for Adelphi continued into singles play as Witkowska quickly won her No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-0. Lindeman was not far behind with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Beltran clinched a finals berth for the Cats, winning 6-1, 6-1 as the Panthers' No. 6.
The Adelphi women's tennis team will continue its quest for a conference championship on Tuesday when it takes on No. 2 Assumption. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing is set for noon.
