Waltham, Mass. – Adelphi University's softball team played to a second split in as many days at Bentley University on Saturday, winning game one but dropping the matinee.
Series History:
- The season series was tied 1-1 heading into today's matchup following the Friday afternoon split.
- Prior to today's doubleheader, the programs had faced off 26 times dating back to the 2010 season.
- Adelphi (26-14, 22-4 NE10) was 21-5 all-time against the Falcons (15-27, 10-16 NE10).
Game One: Adelphi 6, Bentley 1
Highlights:
- Makayla Comer went three-for-four at the plate while driving in three runs.
- Wagner also tallied three hits, while knocking in two runs and scoring once.
- Jenna Plue tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven.
How it Happened:
- Adelphi put together a three-run first inning. After Emma Priest walked and Ellen Tarjan singled, a defensive error opened the gates to the Panthers' first run.
- Wagner and Comer followed the Hawks error with RBI singles to give the Cats an early 3-0 lead.
- The Brown and Gold added three more runs in the third. Kaitlyn Klepper started the rally with a single, Maddy Moore drew a walk and Wagner and Comer continued their big days at the plate with back-to-back RBI hits to give Adelphi a 6-0 advantage.
- Plue kept the Falcons off the board until the sixth inning, when the hosts broke through with a single and an extra-base hit to break up the shutout.
- After limiting the damage to just one run in the sixth, Plue worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to get the Panthers back in the win column.
Game Two: Bentley 7, Adelphi 2
Highlights:
- Ellen Tarjan recorded a multi-hit game for the Panthers while scoring a run.
- Klepper singled and scored a run.
- Lily Kenney came out of the bullpen and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings.
How It Happened:
- The Cats cracked the scoreboard first, putting up a two-run first inning. Tarjan singled to left field to start a two-out rally, and Klepper followed with a single of her own. With two on, Bentley's defense then committed a throwing error in the field, allowing both Tarjan and Klepper to score.
- That would be all of the offensive production for the Panthers in game two, as Bentley responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
- The Falcons strung together four hits against Adelphi starter Tori Parente, highlighted by a double from Bentley's No. 3 hitter, to take a 3-2 lead.
- After both teams settled in, the opposition extended its lead in the fourth inning. Bentley plated four runs in the frame, recording four hits, including Bella Burke's second double of the day, which brought home two runs.
- Tarjan led off the sixth inning with a double but was stranded. In the seventh, the Brown and Gold drew a leadoff walk but were unable to cut into the Bentley lead.

- The Panthers return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 22, when they travel to face Southern Connecticut State University for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
