Wilmington, Del. – After an impressive win over No. 40-ranked Jefferson, head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team were back on the courts Wednesday afternoon to take on regional contender Wilmington (Del.).
The Wildcats took the first doubles match of the afternoon, but the duo of Katarina Liedbeck and Kayla Castellano evened things up with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 flight. Zuzanna Witkowska and Oda Solevag Halvorsen took the No. 1 match to a tiebreak, but fell 6-7 (4-7), giving Wilmington the first point.
Witkowska bounced back in singles, winning her match 6-4, 6-3. The Wildcats took a commanding 3-1 lead after wins in the No. 4 and No. 5 matches. Liedbeck and Solevag Halvorsen won their matches 6-2, 6-4 and 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, respectively, but Wilmington secured the decisive No. 6 flight to win the match, 4-3.
The Adelphi women's tennis team will be back on the court on Saturday at 9 a.m. when they take on Saint Michael's on Senior Day.
