Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#1 Men's Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten Following Win at #9 Pace, 10-7

Pleasantville, N.Y. - Under the lights at Northwell Stadium, undefeated Adelphi University used a four goal second quarter to pull away and hold on for a 10-7 against #9 Pace University on Tuesday evening.

Series History:
  • The Panthers hold a 25-2 all time record against the Setters, dating back to the 2006 season. The win today pushed Adelphi to 16 straight victories (since losing in 2017) with a perfect record on the road (10-0).
Highlights:
  • Kyle Lewis poured in a season-best four goals in a crucial regular season matchup for Adelphi. Additionally, Lewis' night concluded by being the lone NCAA Division II student-athlete selected in the Premier Lacrosse League draft, by the Philadelphia Waterdogs.
  • Ryan Bauco chipped in a pair of goals as two others finished with two points each, in Danny Fisenne and Vincent McDermott
  • At X, William Greaves finished 14-for-20 in the circle with seven ground balls.
  • Three different players each had two caused turnovers, as Carter Linkletter anchored the defense with seven ground balls.
  • Between the pipes, Christian Tomei finished with 14 saves on 34 shots, holding the Pace attack to single digit scoring. This marks the newcomer's 12th victory in a Panther uniform.
How It Happened:
  • The no. 9 team in D2 held a one-goal lead over the Panthers (13-0, 7-0 NE10) following the first 15 minutes of action. A slow start for the Cats, Gavin Herzog got the visiting team on the board first, but Pace's Will Danowski put in a pair of goals over a 13 minute stretch to give the home team the advantage.
  • Lewis's goal to open the second served as the equalizer at 13:49 and he added another to make it 3-2 under three minutes later. An interception from Ries Bower in the defensive end made way for a pole goal to double the deficit after nearly five minutes had gone by.
  • The teams traded late goals in the quarter - including a hat trick strike from Lewis, to give the Panthers a two-goal edge at the halftime break.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Pace knotted the game at five-all within two minutes of the third frame starting, but it was Lewis again who kept the hosts at bay. Braden Donnellan connected with Bauco to extend the Adelphi lead back to two, before another set of goals came on either side.
  • Lewis found Bauco to start things off in the fourth, which gave the Panthers their largest lead of the contest. The Setters capitalized on a man-up possession but six different attempts on goal throughout the quarter were gobbled up by Tomei. The hosts outshot the Panthers 12-6 in the final 15 minutes, but a strong defensive stand proved to be the differencemaker.
Hear from Coach Purdie:
  • "Walking off the field with a win against a solid Pace squad is a testament to this team's resilience. [William] Greaves gave us an incredible effort to earn the game ball alongside Christian, who was an anchor for us in the cage. With the win behind us, we're already turning our attention to how we can keep improving day by day."
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will host Franklin Pierce on Saturday, April 18 in the regular season finale, starting at 1:00 p.m. Following the NE10 matchup, the team will celebrate the members of the graduating class with a postgame ceremony.
