Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#1 Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season with 25-7 Win Over Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - With an undefeated regular season under their belt, the no. 1 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team defeated Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, 25-7 on Motamed Field.

With the win, the Panthers are the outright Northeast 10 Regular Season Champions for the third time in the last three years.

Series History:
  • Adelphi has never dropped a contest to the Ravens, extending their series record to 15-0 with the win.
  • The teams have only ever met during the regular season, dating back to the 2010 season.
Highlights:
  • Fifteen different players for Adelphi found the back of the net, led by Danny Fisenne who finished with a career-high six goals. Kyle Lewis and Braden Donnellan also accounted for six points each in the victory, combining for three goals and nine assists.
  • Brendan O'Rourke added a pair of goals on his Senior Day, finishing as one of five players that had a pair of goals in the regular season finale.
  • Five players contributed to the faceoff unit, led by senior Kyle Stark, who went 15-for-19 with 12 ground balls. Michael Reilly was a perfect 8-for-8 and fellow senior Stephen Bayer was 5-for-7 on the day with four ground balls.
How It Happened:
  • Adelphi scored the first seven goals of the game, including a pair before the 10-minutes mark. Fisenne was responsible for a pair of back-to-back man-up goals to make it a 6-0 game. Ries Bower wanted in on the offensive set, assisting on a Lewis goal that capped the hosts' seven-goal run.
  • Franklin Pierce managed two straight but Noah Gibson landed the Panthers last tally of the quarter to lead 8-2 at the break.
  • After trading goals to start the second frame, Fisenne once again kicked off a six-goal spurt for Adelphi that saw them jump out to a 15-3 lead. The Ravens only managed a trio of shots on goal, two of which fell past Tomei, but a Michael Durnin/Braden Donnellan connection made it a 16-4 contest at halftime.
  • The Panthers won 18 first half faceoffs, and had a commanding advantage inside the circle for the game.
  • It was the senior class that remained hot in the second half, as Vincent McCabe netted his second goal of the season, and James Hegel got on in the back of the cage in the fourth. Brian Doherty gave the home team it's 20th goal of the contest, as Franklin Pierce struggled to put together anything consistent on offense.
Quote from Coach Purdie:
  • "Getting the win today against Franklin Pierce was the perfect way to celebrate and honor this senior class. When you look back at what these young men have given to Adelphi Lacrosse - especially their roles in securing our back-to-back National Championships - their impact is immeasurable. They've set a standard of excellence that willd efine our program for years to come. I am incredible produ of their dedication, leadership and the culture they have instilled in our team."
