Baseball Earns Sunday Sweep Over SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi baseball team traveled to Southern Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon for the final of two doubleheaders between the two squads. The Panthers gutted out a close one in the game one win, with the bats coming out to play for the nightcap in a double-digit rout.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (18-13, 14-8 NE10) is now 36-23 against Southern Connecticut State since May 2005. Game 1: Adelphi 6, Southern Connecticut State 4 (F/7)

Game 1: Adelphi 6, Southern Connecticut State 4 (F/7)
Highlights:

  • Dylan Beirne put together a complete game performance, allowing only two earned runs and striking out five.
  • Four Panthers had multi-hit games, Johnny Catuosco led the pack with three
  • Evan Carway led the teams in RBIs with two, both coming from his third inning single.

How It Happened:

  • The Owls managed to strike first, but Carway scored on a wild pitch in the top half of the second to knot up the score.
  • A bases-loaded walk brought home the second run for SCSU.
  • Carway once again changed the scoreboard in favor of the Panthers in the visiting half of the third.
  • Another wild pitch in the fourth doubled the Adelphi lead.
  • With no further offense through the fifth, insurance runs for the Panthers came in the form of a sacrifice fly from Zach DeMilt and a Cautosco single to score Anthony Rigogliosi.
  • Despite a two-run shot for SCSU, Beirne did not allow any hits across the final innings for his fourth win of 2026.

  • Following Ramos getting home once more off a wild pitch in the fifth, McCleary doubled to left to score both Catuosco and DeMilt to make the score 7-0 Adelphi.
  • An insurance RBI single from Ramos stretched the lead to eight, with an error, groundout, and sacrifice fly scoring the next three runs to put the Brown and Gold in double digits on the scoreboard.
