Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi baseball team traveled to Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon for the first of two doubleheaders between the two teams. The Panthers exploded for 18 runs in the game one win, but the Owls got the better of Adelphi's bullpen in game two in a 9-3 SCSU win.
Series History:
- Adelphi (16-13, 12-8 NE10) is now 34-23 against Southern Connecticut State since May 2005.
- The last meeting between the two was an 11-5 Panther win in Garden City on April 6, 2025.
- John Carver earned the victory in that contest, while Johnny Catuosco homered.
Game 1: Adelphi 18, Southern Connecticut State 2
Highlights:
- John Carver put together another quality start. The fifth-year right-hander went six strong, striking out eight and allowing only two earned runs.
- Five Panthers had multi-hit games, with leadoff man Zach DeMilt tallying the most with three.
- Albert Ramos led the team in RBIs with four, while Bryan McCleary drove in three runs.
- Zach DeMilt, Johnny Catuosco and Giancarli Rengifo each drove in three runs.
How It Happened:
- The Panthers got off to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the first.
- A two-out error put McCleary on first, and the Panther catcher moved to second after a Michael Robinson walk.
- A hard-hit single from Ramos forced a tough play from the Owls' second baseman, and all runners were safe, scoring the first run of the game.
- After a clean opening frame from Carver, the Panthers pounced for six runs in the top of the second.
- A Carway walk and Duignan single set the table for DeMilt, who drove both runners in.
- Catuosco then drove in DeMilt, and Adelphi added another run on an error by the SCSU pitcher.
- Another error scored a run for the Panthers, and Rengifo capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly.
- Leading 7-0, Adelphi tacked on another run in the third with a McCleary RBI single.
- After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Southern Connecticut got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- The score stayed at 8-2 until the eighth and ninth, when the Panthers exploded for nine runs in the final frame.

- Adelphi got on the board first once again, with DeMilt and Catuosco reaching early.
- Ramos drove in DeMilt on a single to center to put the Panthers up 1-0.
- DeMilt extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the second.
- Catuosco made it 3-0 Cats in the top of the fourth, driving in Rengifo.
- Southern Connecticut got one back in the bottom of the fourth after a trio of singles.
- With the score 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Owls jumped all over Adelphi's pitching, scoring eight runs in the inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead.
- Adelphi's bats were quiet over the final two innings as SCSU forced a doubleheader split.
