Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Defense Shines as #1 Men's Lacrosse Hands #4 Seton Hill First Loss, 10-3

Greensburg, PA - Holding its opponent to single digits for the fourth consecutive game, the no. 1 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team topped undefeated Seton Hill University 10-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Series History:
  • Sunday's contest marked the teams' first ever meeting.
  • Established in 2005, Seton Hill operates as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, where they are five-time regular season champions since the 2015 season. In 2025, they went 18-2 with an appearance in the NCAA quarterfinal to Saint Anselm.
Highlights:
  • Netminder Christian Tomei allowed just three goals and finished the non-conference matchup with 13 saves - his best outing thus far in a Panther uniform.
  • Eleven of the Griffins' 25 turnovers were caused by an Adelphi defenseman, as Carter Linkletter accounted for three with six ground balls.
  • Williams Greaves put up a 7-for-12 performance at the faceoff X, scooping up five ground balls of his out.
  • Michael Durnin recorded a hat trick as four others scored and Danny Fisenne also finished with a trio of points courtesy of a pair of goals and one helper.
How It Happened:
  • It took a bit to get rolling as the Panthers (4-0) saw nearly eight minutes tick off the clock before finding the back of the cage. Durnin scored first at 8:06 and then tallies from Vincent McDermott and Noah Gibson gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage following the opening quarter of action. The Griffins suffered eight turnovers in the first 15 minutes, three of them caused. In total, the home team managed just two shots for the frame and only one landed on goal.
  • The Griffins found their groove and finally got on the board to open the second, but it was all-Adelphi as they added another trio of scores to take a 6-1 lead. The hosts out-shot the Panthers 14-11 in the frame but only added two goals as Tomei collected six stops in the quarter.
  • The teams traded goals to open the third, but a flurry of shots over the ensuing seven minutes went off the mark or were saved before Seton Hill cut the deficit to four with their strike at 7:07. Durnin and Fisenne got in the last two goals of the quarter to maintain a six-goal edge heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • The last quarter saw a lone goal from Durnin - to complete the hat trick - as the Panther defense went into overdrive to hold the Griffins scoreless. This marks the first quarter this season that Seton Hill was held without a single goal.
Hear from Coach Purdie:
  • "It was great to get back on the field after being on a two-week break following our canceled games. It was a good team win that saw Christian [Tomei] come up big in a big game - we are very proud of the defensive effort giving up three goals total and only one in the second half. We are looking forward to opening up conference play next weekend."
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will be back in action at home on Sunday, March 15 when they open up conference play against Saint Michael's College at 1:00 p.m.
