Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

12 Score in Men's Lacrosse Rout of Saint Mike's, 18-2

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University men's lacrosse proved that sharing is caring, as they continued their offensive onslaught with an 18-2 victory over Saint Michael's College on Sunday.

Series History:
  • Adelphi has stretched its win streak against Saint Michael's College to 12 with Sunday's victory, holding a 19-3 overall record against the Purple Knights since 2003.
  • Since 2016, the Cats have held St. Mike's to single digit scoring, including just two goals today and in both 2018 and 2019.
Highlights:
  • Twelve different players scored for Adelphi, with Danny Fisenne finishing with five points courtesy of two goals and three assists.
  • Kyle Lewis returned to the field Sunday afternoon for a four-point contest, while also collecting four ground balls.
  • Defensively, James David and Liam Henshaw both accounted for a pair of caused turnovers and William Greaves wen 10-for-16 from X.
How It Happened:
  • The home team held the Purple Knights scoreless for nearly the entire first half, allowing just a single goal at the 5:15 mark in the second. By that point, Adelphi had already made a dent in their side of the scoreboard, with five goals in the first and another five before the visitors found the back of the cage.
  • Kyle Lewis, Noah Gibson and Danny Fisenne all netted a pair of goals in the first half, and a rare own goal by Saint Mikes' netminder made it a 10-1 advantage for the hosts at the halftime break.
  • Saint Michael's had an edge in faceoff wins, taking eight compared to Adelphi's five in the opening two frames.
  • Another scoreless quarter went by for the Purple Knights in the third as the home team tacked on another six goals to take a commanding 16-1 lead after 45 minutes.  Adelphi's Christian Tomei, who finished with seven saves, collected four in the third frame alone, to keep the visitors off the board.
  • Michael Durnin and Gavin Herzog scored within 20 seconds of each other to kick off the third quarter as the offense could not be slowed by the Saint Mike's defense. Adelphi added four goals in a matter of three minutes and was up 15 by the conclusion of the quarter.
  • Thomas Gentile took over between the pipes for the Cats and held them without a goal up until the final second of the contest. His one goal allowed was coupled with a trio of saves in just 15 minutes of work. Kiernan Crayton Dillon and Joseph Diesso found the back of the goal in the final frame for their second and third career goals, respectively.
Hear from Coach Purdie:
  • "Today's game was another outstanding display from our defense, who held the Knights to single digit scoring and single digit shots in three of the four quarters of action. We are looking forward to getting back into the groove of playing two games a week, starting with our next game in just two days."
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will host American International College on Tuesday, March 17. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
