Sekinski Dazzles in Baseball's 7-5 Win

Cary, N.C. – The Adelphi baseball team won its second game in a row on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Wayne State, 7-5.

Series History:

  •  This was the first-ever meeting between Adelphi (2-3, 0-0 NE10) and Wayne State.

Highlights:

  • Jake Sekinski was phenomenal in the best start of his career. The junior went six innings without allowing an earned run and struck out five, surrendering just two hits and four total base runners.
  • While there may have been a bit of a scare at the end of the game, Michael Tufo shut the door on the Wildcats to earn his first save of the season.
  • Evan Carway was stellar at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 and driving in three of the team's seven runs.
  • Matt Ryan added to his RBI total, driving in two more runs while Michael Robinson picked up an RBI as well.

How It Happened:

  •  Wayne State got on the board first, capitalizing on an Adelphi error. Sekinski escaped any further damage, which allowed the Panthers to take the lead in the bottom half of the opening frame.
  • James Eden reached on an error before causing chaos on the basepaths. A Johnny Catuosco walk and an Albert Ramos hit-by-pitch set up Robinson, Ryan and Carwar to put the Panthers up 3-1.
  • Sekinski was nails before departing after the sixth inning, allowing Adelphi to grow its lead to 7-1.
  • Two of those runs came in the bottom of the fifth on a Ryan sacrifice fly and a Carway RBI single.
  • Adelphi's bats were silenced for the remainder of the game and Wayne State scratched across four runs in the final four innings, but the Panther bullpen stayed solid with Tufo closing the door.

Up Next:

  •  Head coach Mike Gaffney and the Panthers will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader with Walsh (Ohio).
