Baseball Earns First Win of 2026 Over Dominican, 12-1

Cary, N.C. – The Adelphi baseball team earned its first win of the 2026 campaign on Friday afternoon, defeating Dominican (N.Y.) 12-1 in seven innings. The victory marks the first for head coach Mike Gaffney.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (1-3, 0-0 NE10) moves to 18-8 against the Chargers since 2004. The last time the regional foes faced off was on March 25, 2025, when the Panthers earned an 11-5 win at William J. Bonomo Field.

Highlights:

  •  John Carver, in his second start of the season, pitched very well, going five innings and allowing only one run with five strikeouts and four hits allowed, earning his first win of 2026.
  • Colin Richardson and Jacob Lee kept the Charger bats quiet for the final two innings.
  • James Eden went two-for-three at the top of the lineup, walking twice, stealing a base and driving in two runs.
  • Johnny Catuosco had two RBI as well, recording an RBI double in the top of the third.
  • Adelphi had a frenzy of Panthers driving in runs, with Albert Ramos, Bryan McCleary, Matt Ryan, Michael Robinson and Zach DeMilt all doing so.
  • DeMilt had the best performance of his young career, going two-for-three at the dish and scoring three runs.

How It Happened:

  • Both teams were scoreless in the first inning before the Panthers struck in the second after an error, a wild pitch and a Ryan groundout.
  • Adelphi exploded for five runs in the top of the third. A DeMilt single followed by an Eden walk sparked the offense, with Catuosco, Ramos, McCleary and Robinson all driving in runs.
  • Dominican got one back in the bottom of the fourth, and both squads' bats were silenced until the top of the sixth.
  • A bunt from Eden caused chaos. An error by the Dominican pitcher resulted in a run for the Panthers and kept the offense rolling.
  • Adelphi added two more runs after a wild pitch and a Catuosco groundout, then jumped out to an 11-run lead in the seventh.
  • Lee closed the door in the seventh as the Panthers won 12-1.

Up Next:

  • Gaffney and the Panthers will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they face off against Wayne State in Cary.
