Highlights:
How It Happened:
- For the first time all weekend, it was the Purple Knights who struck first. After a scoreless first inning, Saint Michael's got on the board in the second thanks to a solo home run. Billy Kind ran into some two-out trouble in the frame but escaped, allowing only one run.
- Adelphi's offense responded in the top of the third, taking a 3-1 lead. Erick Duignan singled before Anthony Rigogliosi laid down a perfect bunt single.
- DeMilt ripped a single past the third baseman to drive in Duignan and tie the game.
- McCleary and Robinson gave the Panthers the lead with an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly.
- Adelphi was held scoreless in the top of the fourth, and in the bottom half, Saint Michael's tied the game. Three singles, a walk, and a hit by pitch led to two runs and chased Kind from the game. Colin Richardson entered in relief and recorded the final out of the fourth to keep the score at 3-3.
- Saint Michael's held Adelphi scoreless in the fifth and then took the lead after a double and an RBI single.
- After being held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, the Panthers' offense got rolling again in the sixth. Singles from Ryan and Rigogliosi set the stage for DeMilt, who drove in the Panther catcher with a line drive to right field. Johnny Catuosco drew a walk, and a McCleary RBI walk gave Adelphi the lead.
- Runs continued to come in, as in the bottom half, the Purple Knights struck for two more and regained the lead.
- The seventh inning was quiet, but the Cats got back on the board in the eighth. Three singles and a walk loaded the bases for Robinson. Down 1-2 in the count, the lefty poked a ball between the left fielder and shortstop for two RBIs and the lead.
- Ramos followed with a clutch at-bat, ripping a single to left-center to extend the Adelphi lead to 8-6.
- Once again, the Purple Knights answered. A two-out rally, sparked by a hit by pitch and an infield single, cut the deficit to 8-7.
- With two runners on, Josh Ayala drove a ball to the left-center field fence. What appeared to be a two-run play resulted in just one run after a Purple Knight missed second base.
- Michael Tufo struck out the next batter to limit the damage.
- Both teams were scoreless in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings.
- Two defensive miscues by Saint Michael's put runners on for the Panthers with no outs in the 10th.
- The Purple Knights' closer, Jerry Guzman, struck out the next two hitters and had Ramos down to two strikes. With the wind playing a factor, Ramos found no man's land with a ball in play, scoring two runs and giving Adelphi a 10-8 lead.
- In the bottom of the 10th, Saint Michael's loaded the bases with no outs after a walk, a single, and defensive miscommunication by the Panthers. The Purple Knights capitalized, winning the game 11-10 on a bases-clearing double by Guzman.
