Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

FIVE STRAIGHT: #16 Women's Lacrosse Tops Saint Michael's, 16-7

Garden City, N.Y. - Five consecutive wins have officially put the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team above .500, after defeating Saint Michael's College on Saturday, 16-7.

Series History:
  • Adelphi (5-4, 5-0 NE10) maintained its' undefeated streak against Saint Michael's, winning their 18th overall matchup since the 2008 season.
Highlights:
  • Ashley Kolomechuk posted a team-leading eight points behind six goals and a pair of assists, falling one point short of her season best (9). Earlier this week, Kolomechuk reached the career milestone of 200 points as she looks to crack into the top-10 of Adelphi's record books this season.
  • Alexandra Leggio recorded her ninth straight multi-point game, collecting five with the help of a hat trick and two helpers. Also scoring a trio of goals was Marielle Colalillo as she inches closer to 100 in an Adelphi uniform.
  • Both Madison Howard and Sonny Lionetti each collected four ground balls as the defense put together a performance featuring 15 caused turnovers.
How It Happened:
  • It took Adelphi all of three minutes to settle in on Motamed Field, posting a pair of goals in two minutes as Leggio and Kolomechuk found the back of the net. A Panther foul sent Saint Michael's to the 8-meter when Audrey Conover buried her free position attempt to cut the deficit to one.
  • Colalillo managed the Cats' third strike of the early going, but back and forth play ensued without either side capitalizing on possession, as the quarter ended with Adelphi ahead by two.
  • In the second, the Panthers erupted for seven goals and held the Purple Knights to one, ripping off six straight to head into the half. The streak extended into the third, as the home team tacked on another three before Saint Mike's found some momentum. A series of won draw controls turned into three unanswered for the visitors from Vermont, to stop the running time, and cut the hom team lead to eight.
  • Ending the third and starting the fourth with a goal, the Panthers were back out to their 10-goal margin but Saint Mike's was not going down without a fight. The Purple Knights traded goals to keep the deficit to to single digits, but time expired before it could make an impact.
Up Next:
  • The Panthers are on the road for their next two conference games, starting with a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, March. This game was originally scheduled for 5:00 p.m. but was moved up one hour. Adelphi is back at Motamed Field on Wednesday, April 8 when they host Molloy University.
