Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Six with Narrow 16-12 Win at Saint Anselm

Manchester, NH - The no. 13 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team used a two-goal advantage at the half to hold on for a 16-12 win at Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, to remain undefeated in league play.

Series History:
  • The series record remains unblemished at 21-0 for Adelphi following Tuesday's win. In 21 matchups since the 2002 season, the Cats are averaging 17.14 goals per game against the Hawks.
Highlights:  How It Happened:
  • After scoring the first two goals of the game, the Panthers (6-4, 6-0 NE10) went cold, allowing the hosting Hawks to put in the next four unanswered and gain a two-goal lead. Colalillo and Leggio both managed late scores to make the game even at four-all following the first 15 minutes of action.
  • Back-to-nack goals from Kolomechuk finally gave Adelphi a lead in the seond, but Saint Anselm's Lucy Mawn capitalized on a woman-up possession to bring the game even once more.
  • It was Leggio's unassisted tally at 7:56 that put the Panthers in the drivers' seat for good, sparking a four-goal run that spanned into the third frame to push ahead by four.
  • The home team committed five turnovers in the third frame alone, struggling to clear the ball but giving Adelphi plenty of opportunities to score. A lopsided 4-1 frame in favor of the Brown and Gold proved to be the difference maker down the stretch.
  • Saint Anselm opened the final frame with a 4-1 run of their own but still trailed by two with 7:09 left in regulation. Colalillo and Foppiano both scored late in the fourth to keep the Hawks at bay and hang on for the team's sixth consecutive win.
Up Next:
  • Women's lacrosse remains on the road for an April 4 meeting with Assumption University. Opening draw control is set for noon.
