Offense Stays Hot In Men's Lacrosse 17-3 Win Over AIC

phGarden City, N.Y. - With another landslide victory, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team earns their 15th consecutive (dating back to last season) after defeating American International College on Tuesday, 17-3.

  • Adelphi is 17-0 all-time against AIC, and they have never allowed the Yellow Jackets to score more than seven goals.
Highlights:

  • Stephen DeAmicis scored his first collegiate goal after a clear attempt turned into a breakaway shot
  • No opponent has managed to score in double-figures against the Panther defense, anchored by netminder Christian Tomei, who finished with five saves over 30 minutes in goal. Thomas Gentile and Christopher Santacroce chipped in eight and three saves, respectively as the Yellow Jackets recorded 19 shots on goal against the no. 1- ranked team in Division II.
  • At X, William Greaves and Michael Reilly only lost four collectively, going 16-for-20 at the faceoff with eight combined ground balls.
How it Happened:
  • Adelphi (6-0, 2-0 NE10) opened the contest with a four-spot while holding the Yellow Jackets (1-5, 0-1 NE10) scoreless through 15 minutes. Durnin scored back-to-back times to close out the first quarter.
  • The hosts tacked on another three before AIC found a way past Tomei, using a no-look shot from Jordyn Boyenko to break the silence. Before the second frame ended, Adelphi managed to add another trio of goals which sparked a nine-goal rn that stretched into the third quarter.
  • In that stretch, Brian Doherty and DeAmicis both found the back of the cage for the first time this season.
  • To wrap up the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets outshot the hosts 15-5, with Gentile and Santacroce combining for six saves. Adelphi's lone goal of the frame came on a clear attempt that saw Gentile find Jeremiah Griffiths down the middle of the field en route to burying his shot for his first collegiate goal as well.
