Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Foppiano and Leggio Lead in 16-8 Defeat of Franklin Pierce

Garden City, N.Y. - In it's second game in three days, the no. 16 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team took a 16-8 decision from Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, on Motamed Field.

Series History:
  • Adelphi has never dropped a contest to Franklin Pierce, holding a 16-0 advantage all-time against the Ravens since 2009.
Highlights:
  • Julia Foppiano and Alexandra Leggio both recorded six-point games, with Leggio notching her 200th career point in a Panther uniform when she assisted on Foppiano's goal in the third quarter.
  • Rita Sefransky saw seven of the hosts' 16 draw control wins land in her stick, as Adelphi held a 16-10 advantage in the game in the draw circle. She also managed a hat trick alongside teammate Emma Mclam who also netted a trio of goals with one assist.
  • The home team was perfect in clearing the ball, while the defense held Franklin Pierce to an 11-for-20 performance in clear attempts.
  • The Panther attack also nearly doubled the shots taken to their opponents, 30-16, with 24 landing on goal.
How It Happened:
  • The Panthers held a 4-2 advantage after the opening quarter, courtesy of a pair of goals from Leggio. The Ravens saw the last two tallies of the frame get past Jillian McFadden which sparked a five-goal run that stretched into the second and ultimately put them ahead 5-4.
  • The final goal of that run was a man-up possession following a green card issued to Sonny Lionetti. After that strike, the Raven offense fell quiet, while the Adelphi attack ramped up, scoring the next 10 to make it a 14-5 contest inside of the fourth.
  • In the third quarter alone, the Panthers landed eight shots on goals and recorded five of them, while holding the visiting team to a single shot and no goals.
  • Each team managed a trio of goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation despite only a 1-4 finish in the clear game for Franklin Pierce. The Ravens had their best frame in the fourth for draw controls, winning five to Adelphi's one.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will be on the road for its next contest on Saturday, March 21 when they travel to American International College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
