Softball Gets Back in Win Column With Split At ESU

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Adelphi University softball program returned to the win column and ended their six game skid on Saturday afternoon, defeating East Stroudburg University in game one before losing in the matinee.

Series History:
  • Prior to today's doubleheader, the programs had faced off just twice.
  • Adelphi was 1-1 all-time against ESU, with its most recent matchup (3/15/06) ending in a 4-1 win.

Game One: Adelphi 2, East Stroudburg 1

Highlights:
  • Lily Kenney pitched a gem, going seven innings while allowing just one earned run on two hits and striking out four.
  • Amanda Chavarria went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Tori Parente drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.
  • Ellen Tarjan went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
How it Happened:
  • The Warriors cracked the scoring column early, as Delaney Ridgell took the second pitch she saw from Kenney over the left-field fence.
  • Neither team's offense generated much after that. Outside of a double from Faith Wagner in the fifth, both pitchers settled in and combined for four straight scoreless innings.
  • In the top of the sixth, the Panthers pushed across two runs. Tarjan started the inning with a single, followed by a double from Kaitlyn Klepper. Chavarria then lined a shot into center field to tie the game at one.
  • Two batters later, Parente delivered the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to left field, deep enough for Chavarria to score and give Adelphi the lead.
  • That was all the support Kenney needed, as she tossed two more scoreless innings to secure the win for the Cats.

Game Two: Adelphi 2, East Stroudburg 7

Highlights: How it Happened:
  • The Warriors got on the board first in game two, tagging Plue for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning after stringing together three hits and a walk.
  • The next inning, Klepper cut the deficit in half with a leadoff home run on the first pitch she saw.
  • East Stroudsburg added three more runs in the bottom of the third, when Megan Chroniger hit a home run to extend the hosts' lead.
  • After the Warriors added another run in the bottom of the fifth, Klepper led off the sixth with another solo shot, sending her second homer of the game over the left-field fence.
  • East Stroudsburg regained their five run cushion in the sixth, following a triple and a single by the Warriors' offense.
  • The Cats tried to rally in their final opportunity, putting two runners in scoring position, but both were left stranded.
Up Next:
  • The Panthers bring their early-season road trip to a close with a stop at the University of Bridgeport on Monday, March 16. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
