Game Recap: Softball |

Plue Fans Ten in Night Cap, But Softball Defeated in Twice at Embry-Riddle

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Adelphi University's softball program fought hard in a 10-inning battle during the nightcap against Embry-Riddle University on Tuesday afternoon. Jenna Plue dazzled with 10 strikeouts, but the squad ultimately fell in both games of the doubleheader.

Series History:

  • Prior to today's matchup, the  teams had faced off six times.
  • Adelphi entered with a 1–5 all-time record against the program, with their most recent matchup (3/11/25) ending in a split, with each team winning a game via the mercy rule.
Game One: Adelphi 0, Embry-Riddle 5
Highlights:
  • Ellen Tarjan started at the hot corner and went 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Lily Kenney went six innings in the circle, striking out two while throwing 66 pitches.
  • As a team, the Panthers recorded 18 putouts and eight assists defensively.
How it Happened:
  • After two innings of scoreless softball, the Eagles pushed the first run of the game across in the third inning, taking advantage of a leadoff double.
  • The home team added another run in the fourth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and executing a double steal to extend their lead.
  • In the fifth inning, the hosts tagged Kenney for three runs, using a pair of extra-base hits and a small-ball approach to create some breathing room and add insurance.
  • The Cats' offense struggled to generate momentum, recording just one hit and stranded three on the basepaths, against Eagles' pitcher Olivia Dougherty.
Game Two: Adelphi 2, Embry-Riddle 3 (F/10)

Highlights:
  • Jenna Plue tossed 9.2 innings, striking out 10 batters.
  • Makayla Comer started at first base and went 2-for-4.
  • Tarjan recorded a hit and scored a run in three at-bats.
  • Jaylen Wright went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
How it Happened:
  • Adelphi struck first in game two, as Tarjan led off the fourth inning with a single. She came around to score three batters later, following an error by the Eagles' third baseman.
  • Embry-Riddle responded in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases against Plue. The senior managed to limit the damage, allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly.
  • In the top of the sixth, Wright led off the inning with a single. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Tarjan, she later scored when Kaitlyn Klepper's singled to center field was mishandled.
  • The Eagles tied the game in their last licks. Following a leadoff single, ERAU's Emma Wood doubled off Plue to knot the game at two.
  • After two innings of scoreless play, the Eagles strung together a pair of hits in the 10th inning to walk things off.
Up Next:
  • The Panthers will return north, but remain on the road, traveling to East Stroudsburg University on Saturday, Mar. 15. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
