Women's Hoops Senior Day Highlighted With Win over Saint Michael's

Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University women's basketball team bounced back from their midweek loss with a 55-48 defeat of Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
Series History:
  • Saturday's contest marked the 18th meeting since the 2009-10 season, with Adelphi holding a 11-8 record, including a split this season.
  • The Panthers are 7-2 on their home court and have won six of the last nine meetings.
Highlights:
  • Victoria Morales posted a team-leading 15 points, helped largely in part by her 7-for-10 performance at the free throw line. In all, the Panthers finished 16-for-21 at the charity stripe, which marks their seventh game this season with a team percentage of 75% or better.
  • Me'Challe Cancer and Gamila Betton both chipped in nine points and combined for 15 rebounds.
  • Lauren Beberman notched her eighth game with three or more blocks, and added four rebounds with a pair of assists to boot.
How It Happened:
  • Adelphi held a narrow two-point edge following the opening quarter. After trailing by five, Cancer landed a three pointer that sparked a 7-2 run to bring the game event at 11. Cancer was also responsible for the final five points of the frame.
  • Following a scoreless two minutes to open the second, Saint Michael's broke the silence with a three pointer to give them the lead. A 10-1 swing in favor of the hosts pushed Adelphi back ahead by seven – an advantage they held on to going into the halftime break.
  • The Purple Knights saw life in the third quarter, with Amber Furch and Margaret Montplaisir contributing nine and eight, respectively, while the Panthers went a bit cold from the floor.
  • Saint Michael's used a trio of three pointers over the final three minutes of the third quarter to knot the game at 39-all, after the home team was responsible an 11-point lead.
  • Adelphi went 5-for-9 from the field in the final 10 minutes of regulation, with a team-high eight points from Morales as the home team scored 10 of their 16 inside the paint to hold on to the win.
  • The teams were even in points in the paint (22) and points from the bench (21) with Adelphi holding a 24-14 advantage in points from turnovers. The Purple Knights committed 27, which is one shy of their season high (28 against Caldwell).
