Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball team earned a hard-fought win over Assumption on Saturday night, 79-59. Four Panthers were in double figures with the team shooting 57.1% from the floor and 50% from three.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (15-7, 7-5 NE10) improves to 14-12 against the Greyhounds since 2005.

How It Happened:

  • Early on, Assumption jumped out to a six-point lead after a quick 7-0 run.
  • Tied at 15 with 11:26 to play in the first half, Adelphi ripped off a 7-0 run itself after makes from Rancy, Connor and Walton.
  • After a flurry of makes from both sides, the game slowed down, which played into the Panthers' favor.
  • Trailing by as many as 12 right before the four-minute media timeout, Assumption made a couple of baskets to go into the half only trailing by seven.
  • In the second half, the Panthers dominated early. An extended 22-6 run saw the home team go up by 22, which was their largest lead of the game.
  • The Greyhounds tried to claw their way back into the contest, but Adelphi's defense was suffocating.
  • In the period, Assumption shot only 33.3% from the field and 21.4% from three.
  • The Panther defense, led by Rancy and Jackson, was lights out. For the game, Adelphi held the Greyhounds to 19% shooting from beyond the arc.
  • A Walton and-one capped the game off for the Brown and Gold as they earned a 79-59 victory.
