Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Leggio Nets 100 Career Goals, #13 Women's Lax Falls to #10 West Chester

Garden City, N.Y. - In its first-ever regular season meeting, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team fell 15-16 to no. 10 West Chester on Saturday afternoon, in the home opener for the 2026 campaign.

Series History:
  • Prior to today's game, the teams had met only in the NCAA Division II National Championship game - where Adelphi took the victory in 2004, 2006, 2010, 2019.
  • Following the result, the Panthers are now 4-1 all-time against the Rams.
Highlights:
  • Alexandra Leggio scored her 100th career goal in the fourth quarter of the contest to give the home team its first lead since the opening quarter. She finished the game with a hat trick and three assists for six points. Her career points total stands at 191.
  • Marielle Colalillo led the team with seven points, courtesy of a trio of tallies and four helpers.
  • Julia Foppiano and Ashley Kolomechuk both accounted four points apiece, each chipping in a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
  • Rita Sefransky notched her first hat trick of the season, and just her ninth career game with three or more goals.
  • Splitting the game in goal, Jillian McFadden and Alexandra Stec both recorded four saves.
How it Happened:
  • Payson Hedges found Kolomechuk in the opening minute to quickly get the home team on the board. West Chester (1-1) wasted no time responding, and add a pair before the clock reached the 10 minute mark. Rory Meehan added another for Adelphi (0-3) but the Rams rattled off three straight to hold a 5-3 at the conclusion of the first.
  • After trading a pair of goals to begin the second, West Chester added another trio of strikes to stretch their lead to four with 8:28 left before the halftime break. Adelphi converted a pair of man-up possessions - courtesy of Colalillo and Sefransky - to cut the lead to two but the Rams closed out the frame with another three goals to make 12-7 at the break.
  • Coliallo netted the first and second Adelphi goals of the third quarter, breathing some life into an otherwise quiet offense. A strong defensive stand held the Rams scoreless for nearly the entire quarter (12 minutes) while the home team put back four straight over a span of five minutes.
  • West Chester's Sydney Wasdick (who posted a team-leading eight points) scored the final tally of the third quarter to push the visitor lead back to two with one quarter of regulation to play.
  • Chipping away at the road team's lead, Sefransky found Colalillo and Foppiano connected with Kolomechuk once more to make it a 14-all game with 13:09 remaining. At 11:36 Leggio drove around from the right side and landed a bounce shot by Morgan Koons for her 100th career goal and to return the lead to Adelphi.
  • Late fouls on Madison Howard and Rory Meehan sent the Rams to the eight-meter for back-to-back free position attempts which they landed to tie and then regain the advantage.
  • Despite a few shots from Adelphi's offense and some untimely for West Chester green cards, the home team could not manage to overcome West Chester in the closing minutes.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will return to the road for their next contest, taking on East Stroudsburg on Saturday, March 7. Game time is set for noon.
