Baseball Falls to Queens in Weather-Shortened Game

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Adelphi baseball team returned to the field at the Cal Ripken Experience on Saturday afternoon for a tilt with local foe Queens College.

Series History:

  • Adelphi (0-3, 0-0 NE10) moves to 28-11 against the Knights since 2002. The last time the teams faced off was on April 22, 2025, when the Knights won 5-3 on their home field.

Highlights:

  • Bryan McCleary went two-for-three as the Panthers' cleanup hitter, scoring one run.
  • Johnny Catuosco had the team's lone RBI on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning.
  • Zach DeMilt scored his first career run and earned the start at third base.
  • Dylan Beirne pitched well in his first career start, allowing only one earned run and striking out four in four innings.
  • Ari Gluck made his collegiate debut in relief of Beirne.
  • Matthew Curto had one of the best outings of his young career, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings.

How It Happened:

  • Both teams were scoreless in the first inning before Queens scratched across the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. After a fielding error that should have ended the inning, a single and walk gave the Knights a 1-0 lead.
  • Queens scored again in the bottom of the third before Adelphi made it a 2-1 game in the fourth.
  • McCleary advanced to third after a single and a throwing error, then scored on an error by the Queens third baseman.
  • The Knights took advantage of Beirne being unable to find the zone, scoring two runs after a hit by pitch, a walk, a single and a passed ball.
  • Adelphi got one back in the fifth thanks to Catuosco's fielder's choice before Queens took a 7-2 lead in the bottom half.
  • The Panthers' bats were quieted from there, and Adelphi fell 8-2 in seven innings after weather shortened the ballgame.

Up Next:

  • Incoming weather forced the game scheduled for tomorrow to be canceled. The Adelphi baseball team will return to the field on Friday for its home opener against Molloy. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
