Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#2 Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up By #10 Lynn

Boca Raton, FL - In its final game in the Sunshine State, the no. 2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-11 decision to no. 10 Lynn University on Friday afternoon, at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

Series History:
  • This matchup marked the first ever meeting between the two top-10 teams. Lynn first established a women's lacrosse program during the 2020 season.
Highlights:
  • Three different players recorded a trio of points, with Julia Foppiano, Marielle Colalillo and Ashley Kolomechuk all reaching three in the loss. Foppiano contributed three helpers while Colalillo and Kolomechuk were each responsible for a pair of goals and one assist.
  • Emma Mclam, Payson Hedges and Nikola Debicka all tallied two goals each as Olivia Zummo scored her first college goal in her first appearance.
  • Sonny Lionetti grabbed a team-leading five grounds balls with four caused turnovers and added four draw control wins to boot. Colalillo was also in the mix on the circle, grabbing four draws of her own.
  • The team was perfect on clear attempts (23-23) and won the draw control battle 16-11.
How it Happened:
  • The opening quarter was all Lynn (2-1) as they scored the first and the last three of the frame to hold a 4-1 advantage after 15 minutes. Foppiano found Kolomechuk for the first strike of the game for Adelphi (0-2), but the offense was held relatively quiet.
  • Momentum shifted in favor of the Panthers, as they opened the second quarter with a flurry of shots, and a trio of goals within 90 seconds of each other. Mclam was responsible for a pair in that stretch, as Colalillo capped the four-goal run to give Adelphi its first lead.
  • The Knights managed to find an equalizer, but Hedges and Colalilo accounted for the next two strikes to keep the edge. One more goal from the home team still saw the Panthers with a one-goal advantage at the half.
  • Scoring flip-flopped and the third mimicked the first in that Lynn was consistently finding the back of the cage. Debicka and Zummo scored their first collegiate goals in the frame, but the visitors still trailed by two going into the final quarter of regulation.
  • Lynn's leading scorer, Rebecca Clark, who finished with six goals in the game, was the first to strike in the last quarter. After Debicka's second career goal, the teams went up and down the field, until Kolomechuk converted the team's only free position shot of the afternoon to come within one with 2:40 left in regulation.
  • A late turnover by the Panthers returned possession to the home team who tacked on another tally with 12 seconds left in the contest, putting the game just out of reach for Adelphi.
Up Next:
  • Adelphi will return north and host West Chester University on Saturday, February 28 in its home opener at Motamed Field. Opening draw control is set for 1:00 p.m.
